Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2017: Entries now open

The Farm Shop & Deli Awards, which celebrate the very best of the UK’s specialist food and drink market, has opened entries early for the 2017 competition. In response to feedback from previous entrants and due to the high standard of the applications received, they wanted to ensure all entries had sufficient time to prepare their answers and enter these prestigious awards during the summer months ahead. The launch date has therefore been brought forward and entries are now open, with the deadline for entries Friday 16th September 2016.
Following resounding success since its launch three years ago, these awards have received over 1,000 entries from the specialist independent retail market, with nearly 17,000 consumer votes and over 7,000 online votes registered.
Now in its fourth year, Farm Shop & Deli Awards recognise the very best standards in the UK’s independent, speciality retail market. With an expert panel of judges joining Nigel Barden Chair of Judges, the Awards will celebrate the highest levels of service, product knowledge, initiative, innovation and community involvement, offered by our heroes of the high-street.
Nigel Barden, Chairman of judges and food & drink broadcaster/journalist commented: "The artisan food and drink market is particularly competitive and it’s crucial that we recognise those who are championing the sector by leading from the front. It’s important that they can be acknowledged by the public and their peers in the trade.”

Category awards are up for grabs across 12 different specialisms with nine regional awards also available - plus the coveted ‘Farm Shop & Deli Retailer of the Year’. A team of judges, which includes experts from the world of speciality retail, fine food and food media, will evaluate the online entries before whittling these down and carrying out a series of ‘secret’ visits later this year to see the retailers in action. Scores will be counted and judged along with online votes from consumers ahead of the finalists being revealed in March 2017, and the winners unveiled live at the Farm Shop & Deli Show on Monday 24th April 2017.

Following his win of ‘Butcher of the Year’,’ Regional Winner’ for East Anglia and ‘Farm Shop & Deli Retailer of the Year 2016’, Arthur Howell said: “Being named Retailer of the Year 2016 at the Farm Shop & Deli Show Awards has given my business a fantastic boost. As well as the huge prestige that comes with winning such an award it has also helped cement north Norfolk’s reputation as one of Britain’s top culinary hotspots. I have recently seen a 20% increase in the number of local hotels and restaurants I supply and I believe that extra business has been generated as a direct result of the award.
I fly the Norfolk flag with pride and one of the first things I did after this year’s show was to have the Retailer of the Year 2016 logo incorporated on the bodywork of my delivery vehicles. It’s been a real talking point and I think the award has made my customers, whether they’re local residents or holidaymakers, even more assured of the quality of the produce I provide.”
